Reflection Task 2

  I am studying English Language Teaching. So I am interested in 

not only English but also British culture. It is necessary for me to learn about British people and their culture in order to be an 

effective teacher.

  First, the United Kingdom consists of four countries which are England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. British literature includes the UK and also the Channel Isles and Isle of Man. Since it is mixture of different countries and cultures, British literature has wide range of types of expression. It has many successful and valuable authors and poets like Philip Larkin, George Orwell or William Shakespeare. Recent British literature is composed of works of Geoffrey Chaucer, William Shakespeare and John Milton.

  When we consider British cuisine, their dishes are traditionally based on beef,lamb,pork,chicken and fish. Those foods are generally served with potatoes and one other vegetable. Their breakfast is also consisting of bacon sausages and eggs. They are served with a variety of side dishes and beverage such as coffee or tea. I think it is weird to eat bacon at mornings. I cannot imagine eating bacon in the morning. It can be because I am not used to eating bacon for breakfast. At first I found that strange, but it is normal for British people. After all it is their habit of eating  and they get accustomed to having breakfast like that.

  If we talk about their anthem, the British anthem is ‘‘ God Save The Queen’’ and each of four countries of the UK also has their own patriotic hymns.Finally, association football is the most popular sport in the UK and also the modern game of golf is popular and it is originated in Scotland.
